Around the Horn AKRON-FAIRGROVE The Vikings outscored Caseville 20-2 in the second stanza to coast to a 63-36 win. The Eagles trailed 35-15 at the half and 48-25 after three quarters of play. Josh Repkie led the Vikings with 20 and tyler Crane had 19. Charlie Karafa topped the Caseville scoring with 13 and Dustin Ostrander had 11. Last Tuesday, the Vikings managed just three points in the opening quarter and were outscored in every quarter, except the last, in dropping a non-league contest to Arenac-Eastern 56-43. Akron trailed 13-3 in the first eight minutes of play and were looking up at a 25-13 score at the half. The Vikings, behind the scoring of Josh Repkie and Kyle Winnie, outscored their opponents 19-14 in the fourth quarter. Repkie topped the Akron scoring chart with 21 points. BAD AXE A slow start in the first half was more than the Hatchets could overcome in the regular season finale, falling to Bay City All- Saints 74-52. Bad Axe, 5-15 overall, managed 20 points in the opening two quarters, trailing 36- 20, and came out on the short end of a 38-32 second-half score. Ethan Sisco topped the Hatchet scoring with 20 points and Luke Falannery canned 15. LAKER After playing to a 28-26 score at the half, Laker outscored USA 32-27 last Thursday to post a 60- 53 win. A 15-7 edge in the third quarter helped spark Laker. Chris Rowe led Laker with 16, Shay Wruble had 14 while Luke Voelker and Brody Lawrence had seven points apiece. USA was led by Josh Lakie with 19, Jake Holland tossed in 16 and Clinton Krueger scored 10. On Tuesday, Laker fell behind 33-30 in the first half before mounting a second half rally to score a 69-53 win over Bad Axe. The teams battled to a 15-15 tie in the first quarter, before Bad Axe squeezed out a 18-15 advantage in the second. Laker came out fired up in the third, racing to a 24-7 edge and sealed the deal with a slim 15-13 edge in the fourth quarter. Rowe and Voelker paced Laker in scoring, tossing in 21 and 20 points respectively and Brody Lawrence added 14. Bad Axe was led by Ethan Sisco's 17 points and Jeremy Pawlowski tossed in nine. NORTH HURON In a wild shoot-out Thursday, the Warriors flexed their offensive muscle, ripping the nets for 44 points in the second half to roll to the team's 19th victory of the season, winning 82-63 over Port Hope. North Huron took a 22-17 first-quarter lead and led after three quarters 68-46. Sean Clancy was a one-many wrecking crew for North Huron, lighting up the scoreboard with 33 points. Mike Bucholtz added 14 and Erik Dhyse scored 13. Travis Phillips had a fine game for the Bluestars, topping the score-book with 21 points and Tyler Oesahger chipped in with 17. Peck took on the Warriors last Tuesday and had ideas of a possible upset of the Warriors to keep their slim league title hopes alive. However, the NCTL-North champs would have nothing to do with it, and kept its outstanding season in tact, with a 52-45 win. North Huron hustled its way to a 17-13 first-quarter lead and outscored Peck 11-8 to take control at the half, 28-21. The Warriors had four players in double figures, led by Dhyse with 15. Kevin Rice scored 14, Clancy added 11 and Bucholtz tossed in 10. USA Last Tuesday, the Patriots took a slim 14-12 first-quarter lead and had to fight back a determined Red Hawk squad, to score a 60- 55 win over Cass City. USA, 10- 9 overall, was led by Clinton Krueger with 22 points, Sean McBrayer tossed in 13 and jake Holland added 11. Alex Varney's 19 paced the Cass City (5-14) scoring attack while Cameron Dunnuck had 15. OWEN-GAGE
Last Tuesday, a 21-point explosion in the first quarter helped spark Owen-Gage to an easy 74- 34 win over Caseville, The Bulldogs led 33-16 at the break and turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, allowing just 18 points. Nick Zaleski, as he has done more than once this season, dominated the scoring for either side, pouring in 31 points for Owen-Gage. Ryan Francis tallied 17, Devin Prich scored 14 and Hunter Champagne tossed in 10. Nathan Sell had a strong game for the Eagles (2-17), scoring 20 points. |
